Lullaby for the gods of War
If the world gets too hot
Far greater than we thought
And it leaves us with questions of doubt
Like, are all of us threatened to burn out?
Or what should be our course?
And who’s to blame at source?
It’s the hatred we foster inside!
Oh, we can fight all we like
Live our lives out in strife
Wage battles throughout eternity
Along with the rest of humanity
But here’s some sage advice
For a stark and lonely night
In the darkest hours of the soul
Make peace with your shadow, make peace with your demons, make peace with your devils, make peace.
For this is a lullaby, for the gods, of war that rage inside each of us.

So the great deception
Is all in perception
That keeps us focused on difference
And drives us to such intolerance
But to clear the mind’s eye
And see through the disguise
Requires we hold an open heart

For we are unaware
The enemy is where
We define here and there with distance
between black and white, them and us
Please forgive the preaching
Of dissonant teachings
And see we’re all striving to believe

Oh, so if you can try
To send out a cry
Not of grief, not of woe, not of shame
Not of hate, not of fear, not of blame
But of a glorious hope and care
Of the bountiful love that shares
A message of peace through the land!

Make peace with your shadow, make peace with your demons, make peace with your devils, make peace.
For this is a lullaby, for the gods, of war that rage inside each of us.
Make peace…
