Home Delivery, aka Mom & Pop are dead (but now you get it all delivered to your door)
Installation from the 2021 El Camino College virtual exhibition Gerrym(e)andering
Collage and mixed media on cardboard Amazon delivery boxes.
Variable sizes
These mixed media sculptures in the “Home Delivery” series explore the relationship of home-delivery consumerism and its effect on the environment along with a wide-ranging variety of sub-themes about the human condition, including the treatment of indigenous populations, food distribution, and the death of mom & pop businesses. Scenarios and concepts develop from the various collaged images, which then become mini-murals on the cardboard walls of the delivery boxes.
Amazon and the Alibaba Group deliver around 15 million packages a day, delivered directly to the purchasers’ door to feed their consumer needs, and using vast amount of packaging materials in the process (which in this series are exhumed like the boxes’ internal organs). National Geographic magazines have for decades provided people the opportunity to explore the world by consuming articles and images without having to move from the comfort of their home. The combination of these two materials make for a unique exploration of how our world has forever been changed and is constantly transforming.
